Argent Editions Historic Photographs PressFlashback: Argent Editionshttp://manhattanusersguide.com/article.php?id=1516 Number six in our Flashback series is NYC-based Argent Editions. It's run by Hans Soderquist, who specializes in high quality prints of historic photographs. You can browse by category—things like Aviation, Black History, Lighthouses, and, of course, NYC. Among the photographers are Lewis Hine, Walker Evans, The Wright Brothers, and Dorothea Lange. When you find something you like—say, the Manhattan Bridge under construction, pictured above—it's $49 for an 8" x 10" print, $95 for an 11" x 14" print, or $175 for a 16"x 20", all archivally printed on satin-surface heavyweight fiber paper. © 2009 Manhattan User's Guide
Stuff to Buy: Blasts from the Pasthttp://www.gettrio.com/2007/11/argent_prints.html Hans Soderquist likes old photographs. A lot. And even though many images are being preserved as important artifacts by government-run and private agencies (from museum trusts to the Library of Congress digital archives), he despairs that they're not being displayed and enjoyed as they deserve to be. So he founded Argent Editions, a small Manhattan-based outfit dedicated to creating modern prints of historic, little-seen photographs (most of them black and white) from the likes of Lewis Hine, Gordon Parks and Walker Evans. A photographer himself, Soderquist knows his stuff and prints the arresting images (organized by theme, such as the Depression, Black History and Life in New York) to last, using archival pigment-based inks on satin-finish, acid-free paper. Prices start at about $65. © 2007 NBC Universal. |
